The NHL Players Association and Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres plan to appeal the 25-game suspension handed down by the league April 21.

The harsh penalty was the result of Torres' hit on Chicago Blackhawks' forward Marian Hossa during Game 3 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.

However, Torres and the NHLPA are not appealing the suspension itself, rather the severity of the levy. Torres' suspension was the longest for an on- ice offense handed out by the league since 2007.

There was no penalty called on the play.

    Glad to hear this..
I'm glad to see that he will be appealing this. While i whole heartedly agree with the suspension the length seemed a bit strong. If you compare what he did to some of the other things that have garnered smaller suspensions, I think he deserves less, more like 15. Hopefully, he finally learned from this and this will deter him from committing these kinds of plays in the future. He is a key piece to this team and all teams need a physical presence like his, just more under control. Everyone can say what they will, but every team needs someone the other team fears.
