The NHL Players Association and Phoenix Coyotes forward
Raffi Torres plan to appeal the 25-game suspension handed
down by the league April 21.
The harsh penalty was the result of Torres' hit on Chicago Blackhawks' forward Marian Hossa during Game 3 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
However, Torres and the NHLPA are not appealing the suspension itself, rather the severity of the levy. Torres' suspension was the longest for an on- ice offense handed out by the league since 2007.
There was no penalty called on the play.
