Arizona Coyotes split decisions against Kings to open preseason

Henrik Samuelsson had a goal, two assists and scored in a shootout to lift the Arizona Coyotes to a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Kings in a split-squad game Monday night at Gila River Arena.
Martin Hanzal had two goals and an assist, and Max Domi added three assists playing on the same line with him and Samuelsson. Domi also scored in the shootout, which ended when Los Angeles’ Mike Richards failed to score.
Sam Gagner also scored for Arizona.
Richards had two goals, including one late in the third period to force overtime.
Tanner Pearson had a goal and an assist for the Kings, and Nic Dowd also scored.
Arizona’s Mike Smith stopped 29 shots while Los Angeles split goaltending duties between Jean-Francois Berube (15 saves) and Patrick Bartosak (18).
In Los Angeles, Nick Shore scored in the fourth round of the shootout, and the Los Angeles Kings opened the preseason with a 4-3 split-squad victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Monday night.
Marian Gaborik scored two goals on assists from Anze Kopitar for the defending Stanley Cup champions, who suited up at Staples Center for the first time since winning their second NHL title in three seasons.
Michael Stone tied it with 1:23 left in regulation during a 6-on-3 advantage for the Coyotes. Justin Hodgman and Philip Lane also scored in the third period.
Andy Andreoff also scored for Los Angeles.
Gaborik scored on a wrist shot in the second period and a tap-in early in the third.
