Arizona Coyotes’ rally comes up short in Anaheim: By the Numbers

Nov 24, 2014, 3:44 AM | Updated: 3:54 am

The Arizona Coyotes took too long to get pucks in front of the net Sunday, and it resulted in a rally that came up short.

Trailing by two goals after 40 minutes, defenseman Keith Yandle scored 8:56 into the third period, but the Coyotes couldn’t find an equalizer and fell 2-1 at the Anaheim Ducks.

The loss was Arizona’s sixth in its last eight games, as the Coyotes fell to 9-11-2 (20 points) on the season. The Ducks improved to 13-4-5, and their 31 points are tops in the Western Conference.

Here’s how the ‘Yotes fell in Anaheim Sunday night, by the numbers:

0

The Coyotes had scored a power-play goal in five of their previous six games, but they were 0-for-3 with a man advantage Sunday.

1

Ducks goalie Frederik Andersen had allowed at least three goals in each of his last five games, but he held the Coyotes to a single goal on 27 shots Sunday.

3

Yandle’s goal was his third of the season. After scoring just once in his first 16 games of the season, the eighth-year defenseman has scored twice in his last six contests.

6

It was a hard-luck loss for goalie Mike Smith, who suffered his sixth consecutive defeat. Smith has allowed an average of 2.43 goals per game during that span.

7

The Coyotes haven’t out-shot their opponents in any of their last seven games. The last time they did was in a 4-3 home loss to the Dallas Stars on Nov. 11 when they outshot the Stars 37-32.

10

The Coyotes fell into a 2-0 hole in part because they only managed 10 shots on goal in the first two periods. They tallied 16 shots in the third period, but it was too little, too late.
