“You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.” – Wayne Gretzky
Putting rubber on net was a major issue for the Arizona Coyotes in Saturday’s matinee game against their Pacific Division rival Los Angeles Kings. The Coyotes had just 17 shots on goal, including a measly three in the third period.
Arizona entered that period tied at two. They left it with a 4-2 loss, their 17th regulation loss of the season.
The Coyotes overcame the shot differential in the middle frame, turning a 1-0 deficit into a one-goal lead with goals from Martin Hanzal and Kyle Chipchura. However, a late-period power play goal tied things up and was a harbinger of things to come.
Los Angeles struck again with the man advantage 1:34 into the final frame and would never look back. They potted another late goal to seal the victory.
The Kings scored in the final four minutes of each period.
Arizona falls to 11-17-4 on the season and remains near the bottom of the Western Conference Standings. The Coyotes have lost six of their eight December games thus far.
Here’s a look at Saturday’s loss by the numbers.
