What looked like a classic goaltending duel in the making turned into an onslaught Saturday in Glendale.

After a scoreless 38 minutes to open the game, the New Jersey Devils scored four times in less than 12 minutes to beat the Arizona Coyotes 4-1 at Gila River Arena.

New Jersey finally broke through with 1:57 to play in the second period. Adam Henrique’s power-play goal off an unusual rebound gave New Jersey a 1-0 edge. The goal was Henrique’s 15th of the season.

The Devils doubled their advantage just 50 seconds into the third period off Stephen Gionta’s fifth goal of the season.

The ‘Yotes (21-39-8; 50 points) quickly responded, as Shane Doan scored on a redirect for his 13th goal of the season just over five minutes later. Mark Arcobello and Tobias Rieder assisted on the goal.

But New Jersey (28-29-11; 67 points) squashed any hopes of an Arizona comeback with a Jordin Tootoo goal, his eighth of the season, just 20 seconds thereafter. Mike Cammalleri’s 25th goal of the season 9:25 into the third capped the game’s scoring.

Here’s a closer look at how the Coyotes fell for the 14th time in 15 games, by the numbers:

Devils goalie Cory Schneider has been phenomenal against the Coyotes lately, as he has allowed just two goals in his last four games against Arizona. He recorded a 38-save shutout against the Coyotes in a 3-0 Devils win in New Jersey earlier this season.

It took just two minutes and 45 seconds of game time before Saturday’s first fight broke out, as Tootoo mixed it up with Arizona’s B.J. Crombeen behind the Coyotes’ net.
