There is now a front-runner for the Arizona State football head coaching vacancy.

According to Arizona Sports 620's Paul Calvisi, June Jones is now the front-runner for the ASU job and an announcement could come as soon as ASU announces what bowl game they were chosen for.

Jones is considered to be a serious candidate for ASU, according to Pete Roussel.

The former Hawaii head coach has been credited for single-handedly rebuilding SMU's football program over the past three seasons and his team has been bowl-eligible since 2008. However, Jones has never posted phenomenal numbers. His teams have lost at least five games in his time at SMU.

Jones is currently the winningest coach in the University of Hawaii's history, where he posted a 76-41 record. He chose to leave the school after feeling promised improvements -- including the campus and training facilities -- were ignored.

Calvisi also tweeted that University of Southern Mississippi's Larry Fedora is currently not on ASU's shortlist.

    If this is true, I want to throw up. We have all this extra money to hire a quality head coach, and the best we can do is June Jones? Fedora Mora Jr. English Much better candidates available. What a disappointment.

    While 8-5 seasons at smu are a wonderful accomplishments, it should not be at ASU. He is old (58) and he has done nothing special as a head coach. He has only won the WAC twice in nine years at hawai'i and never in his four at SMU. plus he isnt cheap he is already getting 2 million a year. The sun devils need a young hungry head coach. To hear Fedora is off the short list is very disapointing. and the only way i see a Jones hire going is with he and Lisa Love being shown the door. Oh and wolf i like the Jack del rio idea too.

    fing kidding me? If June Jones is hired as the next ASU head coach, it will be one of the worst hires in modern college football history. Over the past week, it has become apparent (even more so than it already was - which I thought was an impossibility), that absolutely no one in this University's sports department has any idea what they are doing, especially Lisa Love. What an embarrassment. What a complete and total embarrassment.

    It is a sad day in ASU history. This is the best you can do. Chip Kelly, Mike Leach, Lane Kiffin, heck Colorado is going to chew us up and spit us out! Worst day in the 30 years I have been a fan. Why not Mike Bellotti! Lisa Love and Michael Crowe, you are idiots! June is cheap and so is ASU! Arizona fans, you have us beat in basketball and now football!

    This is a big joke that Lisa Love is thinking about hiring June Jones another old man here but this time an old man with a losing record with his current team SMU and at lowly USA conference. Jones is making 2 million dollars at SMU already so for him to go to ASU that means Love will pay this old underachiever over 2 million dollars is that right. I will not go to another ASU game again if Jones is hired or until that ho Love leaves here for good.

    June Jones is a horrible idea! I was living in Hawaii while he was coaching. The only thing Hawaii had going for them was Colt Brennan in '07 (and of course that led to an embarrassing Bowl performance against Georgia). Under Jones' "leadership" even the Hawaiian radio announcers often commented on how horrible the Warriors were. I am praying that this report turns out not to be true.

    Can ASU please get serious about this HC and look outside of the C-USA?? Noel Mazzone has more pedigree than June Jones. Under no circumstances would I renew my season tickets if June Jones is our next coach.

    What do you expect from the dumbest AD in college sports? The day they fire Love, will be the day they come out from under the curse she has brought on this school. YOU DON'T LIE TO THE TAXPAYERS OF ARIZONA AND EXPECT TO CONTINUE LIKE NOTHING IS WRONG.
