The wide receiver, who missed the entire 2011 season with a torn ACL, has been denied a 6th year of eligibility by the NCAA, according to information first reported by ASUDevils.com.

Simpson redshirted in 2007 after a stellar prep career at Peoria High School. As a redshirt freshman in 2008, Simpson played sparingly, catching just 2 passes for 12 yards, but one of them was a touchdown reception against Oregon. His workload increased a little more in 2009, catching 5 passes and 2 of them going for scores.
In 2010, Simpson had a bit of a breakout season, catching 29 passes for 481 yards. In his career in Tempe, Simpson had 36 catches for 587 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Simpson could have been a key contributor for Arizona State in 2012 due to the lack of experienced receivers coming back. Gerell Robinson, Aaron Pflugrad, Mike Willie and George Bell, who combined for 175 catches and 16 touchdowns last season, are all graduating.
New head coach Todd Graham has signed junior college receiver Alonzo Agwuenu from Mt. San Antonio C.C. and is hoping for a few other commitments on signing day Wedndsday.
