The Arizona State Sun Devils face what is arguably their first real test of the 2012 season Thursday when the Oregon Ducks come to town.

ESPN NCAA football analyst Mark May thinks they'll fail. Badly.

"It will be a beatdown," May told Arizona Sports 620's Burns and Gambo Tuesday, predicting a 55-21 final score.

May said Oregon's speed, especially with D'Anthony Thomas and Kenjon Barner, will prove to be too much for Todd Graham's Sun Devils.

And why not, they've been too much for everyone they've faced thus far.

The Ducks are scoring a ridiculous 52.3 points per game while averaging 302.3 yards per contest on the ground. Barner has racked up 727 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground, while Thomas has reached the end zone a combined nine times as a runner and receiver.

May thinks the Ducks will get out to an early lead and force Arizona State into making some mistakes.

"Once they start pulling away, Arizona State will start having to risk things offensively and they'll start having to do things that they normally don't do," May said. "And that will cost them because they'll turn the ball over once they're behind."

Arizona State has faced little adversity thus far in the season, though that could be because they are simply a good team. Or, maybe, it is just a sign that their schedule has been incredibly soft.

Either way, the Ducks come in ranked third in the BCS standings and second in the AP top 25, so anyone waiting to see the Sun Devils face some stiff competition will get their wish.

listen Listen: Mark May, ESPN College Gameday Football Analyst
Mark May talks to Burns and Gambo as ASU prepares to face number 3 Oregon, May Day says it's going to be a beat down. And, did the Refs get the call right in the Stanford vs. Notre Dame game on the final play of the game? Plus, is it time for a change at Texas after the thrashing they took against Oklahoma? All this and more.
"Time to face reality for this ASU program," May said. "It's going to be one of those situations where they're going to face a very good football team.

"We're going to see where the measuring stick goes for this team. They've played extremely well thus far this season, but now we're going to see how they play against a very good football team."

Mark May = ASU's Biggest Hater
Oregon also hasn't faced a top 25 defense yet, so we'll see how good their offense looks on Thursday. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying ASU is going to win, but I don't think it's going to be a beatdown like Mark May hopes it will be.

    Beatdown??
I see... and that explains why the Vegas spread on this game has come from over 20 points during the summer to less than 10 points today. Not saying ASU will win or even beat that 10 point spread but beatdown??

Could have been a lot more competitive if they would have scored on there 5 redzone chances in the first half!!!! This should not be a beat down. I believe ASU will compete

Hey, I'm an ASU fan but...
unless ASU is +3 in the T/O department I see this being a 25 point win for the Ducks. Have you guys seen them play. Even if ASU puts up 25 points I could see the Ducks doubling that by the end of game.

    A few Things
May is an a**. It seems he hates ASU, so what- he is a semi-literate reporter who is usually wrong. As for the game, I would say Oregon 44, ASU 28. ASU has not played a good team all year, but this is still a turnaround year for them..9 wins, bowl game..

ASU will have a touch time keeping it close...
Anything can happy on any day but ASU has a weak schedule and this will be the first tough game. Someone said the ducks have not faces a top 25 defense WELL the Devils have not faced a top 35 offense...

You want to know why May is prejudice? He is good friends with Greg Byrne down in Tucson. That's why he always favors UofA and hates on ASU. He makes a living off this kind of stuff, though. No one respects his opinion, he's just someone for fans to hate which gets his name out there. I just wish they'd stop putting him on the radio locally, his ignorant comments do have an impact on recruiting in the area.

ASU not only one with weak schedule
Come on dude. How about those top notch teams that OU have played so far this year, almost all at their home field. I guess you could say those may have been confidence building games for a Freshman QB that has yet to play a good team in a hostile environment. This ASU defense is going to rattle this young man so bad, he will not know what hit him. This new Sun Devil football team is playing some of the best, disciplined football they have in years. I will not predict this one other than when the smoke clears, ASU will be 4-0 in PAC 12 Conference play.
