Coming off of a game-winning field goal against Utah and a selection as the Pac-12 special teams Player of the Week, Arizona State kicker Zane Gonzalez’s week just got better.

Gonzalez was named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza National Collegiate Place-Kicker Award on Thursday. The honor makes Gonzalez the first kicker to be named a semifinalist for the award in consecutive seasons.

The sophomore is 14 of 17 in field-goal attempts this season, making 25 of his 27 extra-point attempts. Gonzalez is tied for second in the Pac-12 in made field goals, and 11th in the FBS.

Gonzalez led the FBS in made field goals as a freshman in 2013, when he converted 25 of 30 attempts, second most in school history behind Luis Zendejas’ 28 made in 1983.

Arizona State has had three other kickers voted as semifinalists for the award, with Thomas Weber as the school’s only winner in 2007.

Twenty semifinalists are chosen for the award, and the three finalists will be announced on Nov. 24, with the winner announced on Dec. 11.
