If he decides to return for his senior season, ESPN.com writer David Lombardi said Arizona State running back D.J. Foster could be a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2015.
The junior from Scottsdale has combined for 1,648 yards of total offense while helping the Sun Devils earn a 9-3 regular-season record (6-3 Pac-12) and a bid to the Hyundai Sun Bowl on Dec. 27.
Foster’s 646 receiving yards lead all FBS running backs this season and are 17th-best among all Pac-12 players. Lombardi noted Foster is the only player in the conference to gain at least 1,000 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards this year. Foster has over 500 receiving yards in all three of his seasons as a Sun Devil.
In addition to Foster, Lombardi said ASU wide receiver Jaelen Strong, who has back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons, could be a Heisman Trophy contender if he decides to return to Tempe for his senior season — but he believes Strong will declare for the 2015 NFL Draft.
Lombardi said Sun Devil tailback Demario Richard, who averaged 5.7 yards per carry in his freshman season, is also worth keeping an eye on next year.
