Hampered by what he’s calling a “minor ankle injury”, former Arizona State Sun Devil defensive back Damarious Randall was held out during the Green Bay Packers’ first rookie mini camp practice Friday.
Sporting a helmet and jersey, Randall mostly observed practice and interacted with fellow coaches and teammates, stating he’s being limited purely for precautionary measures.
“The coaching staff and the training staff just wanted to be smart about it,” Randall said after practice.
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy says he expects Randall to join the team next week when rookies will come together with veterans.
Of the 59 players who practiced Friday, Randall was the only one who did not participate.
Selected in the first round with the 30th pick, Randall completed his final season at Arizona State as the Sun Devils leading tackler and interceptor, tallying 106 tackles to go along with three interceptions, in addition to earning All-Pac-12 First Team honors.
