Most everyone agrees Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne has done a great job since taking over for Jim Livengood on May 1, 2010.

With Sean Miller already on board for basketball, the AD turned his focus to football, where Arizona has struggled not only on the field, but off it as well.

Byrne has worked to change that, as ground already broke on the "North Endzone Project" as he works to upgrade the team's stadium as well as other facilities.

People are taking notice, including ESPN NCAA football analyst Mark May.

Shots fired? ASU fans can't be happy reading that.

Then again, May is not the first person to put into words just how impressed he is with what Byrne is doing with the Wildcats. One need only compare Byrne's football coach search, which ended with the hire of Rich Rodriguez, with how Arizona State conducted its search to replace Dennis Erickson to see why May -- and others -- might feel this way.

Of course, all that matters now is wins, and who gets more -- UA or ASU -- is yet to be determined.

However, as Byrne's star continues to rise, the chances of him leaving -- for another school or any other higher- profile job -- would seem to increase.

Wildcats fans will take that, of course, so long as Byrne delivers on what seems to be a pretty bright future for the school from the Old Pueblo.

    Why not?
Lisa Love has taken Arizona State back 3 steps back during her tenure. Byrne is competent and has easy pickings

    I don't get this
All because they hired a coach who couldn't win at Michigan, who recruited 5 star athletes and still couldn't win. Do they really expect this guy to turn this program around?

Michigan was never a fit for Rich Rod. Look at what he did at WVU and expect the same results. Good luck with the Graham hire.

    Whatever
Love how RichRod detractors focus on Michigan and not on West Virginia. RichRod's only mistake at Michigan was not having a top notch DC as Casteel wouldn't follow him there. Well, he's in Tucson now and his defenses helped WV go to three (or is it four) BCS bowls. You'll "get it" soon.

    not going to happen
Cant deny what Rich Rod has done at both of his stops. But a more realistic person will have to look at the rest of the conference and his competition and realize the opportunity to succeed is not that great. WVU was in a weak conf. He now competes with SC, Stanford, Oregon. Now you have to throw in UCLA and the recruits the pirate will take from RR. Cant forget Utah and CAL too. May is a moron trying to get some attention. But love is a mess and needs to go.

    re: Patrick Peterson's Talent
I personally would not expect WVU results because its not going to happen. I think it will be a mix between Mich and WVU to tell you the truth with less talent. Some good teams that go to bowls, but never win the pac-12 and go to a BCS bowl. It would be nice if Green would report as a news guy instead of a blind homer. I guess you had to find something to meet your quota. pathetic story.

    they already do
Own AZ? That isn't saying much. If he said, Own the PAC12, then that would be something. He didn't even say own the PAC12-South. He said own AZ. Seems the UofA already owns AZ.... and with mediocre teams.

    Regardless
UA Basketball will always be #1 in Tucson, and with the nation's best recruiting class coming in next year, they'll be sitting at the top again. All this, of course, thanks to Byrne's hiring of Sean Miller. College sports are all about recruiting and, either way, RichRod is a household name and better coach than Stoops. RichRod brings Oregon's type offense, and in a few years he'll have his recruits, so I'd keep my eyes on them. Best part is Byrne graduated ASU. That has to sting a little.

    Lisa Love reportedly fired
I'm a student at ASU, and the rumors around campus today are that Lisa Love has been fired as athletic director at ASU. Just an FYI.
