Report: Class of 2016 quarterback Shea Patterson decommits from Arizona

Jul 28, 2014, 11:03 PM | Updated: 11:03 pm

Five-star quarterback Shea Patterson, who had been committed to Arizona since December 2012, expectedly withdrew his name from the Wildcats 2016 recruiting class on Monday morning according to James Smith of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

“My recruiting is going to be quite open at this point,” Patterson told Smith. “There are a lot of schools that have been expressing interest and now I’ll have a chance to really look at them.”

As a sophomore last season, Patterson completed 138 of 223 passes for 2,655 yards, throwing 34 touchdowns and four interceptions playing for Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Patterson’s brother Sean, who was a U of A grad assistant, left the program last week to accept a position at LSU.

The 6-foot-2, 191-pound signal caller has 21 offers that include LSU, Alabama, Texas, Notre Dame, Auburn and Oklahoma amongst several other big programs according to the Rivals recruiting service. 247sports composite rankings put Patterson as the No. 3 pro-style passer and No. 30 overall prospect in the 2016 class.

The outlook at quarterback is murky for the Wildcats, who have yet to name a starting quarterback for this season and now don’t have a quarterback in either their 2015 or 2016 recruiting classes.
