Americans are often uncomfortable with the unfamiliar. Traveling outside the United States for many, creates insecurities because of language, customs and sometimes because of the first time experience of being a minority. But those differences surround us every day in our own country.

Most of our citizens are at ease with the combination of the American culture mixed with their ethnic origins. But Phoenix is a uniquely Caucasian community. As settlers moved west, people of color were often left behind in the east and the cities of the middle west. That separation geographically and racially now offers the opportunity to answer the question, "What's it like being black in a white city?"
