I spent a lot of time on the show Tuesday talking about trade scenarios for Amare Stoudemire. One of them was a deal with the Boston Celtics in which the Suns might be able to land the talented point guard Rajon Rondo -- a player they once drafted.

It's no secret that the Celtics like Stoudemire, they are one of about 10 teams that have shown interest in the power forward. And it's no secret that the Suns will be shopping Stoudemire hard once the NBA Finals are over.

The Suns have no intention of giving Stoudemire a contract extension of which he is eligible for this summer and they certainly don't want to let him walk after next season when he has the right to opt out of his current contract. So Stoudemire will be dealt and there will be some good deals on the table to give STAT a new address. The Celtics will show interest and could put together some enticing packages. But it is unlikely that Stoudemire will be wearing green next year.

First and foremost the Suns still want Steve Nash to be the point guard on this team and want to extend him another two years. Second, in any trade involving Stoudemire they would like to get another big back. The Celtics deal I discussed centered around Rondo and Ray Allen, two guards. So while I believe Rondo can be had for the right price, I just can't see the Suns wanting to end the Steve Nash era at this point. Remember, they still need to sell tickets to a fan base unhappy with last season's results and dealing with a tough economy.

The most likely trade partner for the Suns is the Washington Wizards who have some good young talent on the roster as well as having the #5 pick in the upcoming draft. The Wizards have several players the Suns would be interested in, including Caron Butler, Nick Young, Andray Blatche, JaValee McGee and of course the pick. Washington could use the athleticism and size of Stoudemire up front to team with Antwan Jamison and a healthy Gilbert Arenas and give the Wizards a formidable threesome to contend in the East.

The Suns could get back a solid player in Butler, a young player with talent to groom and a top-5 pick with which to grab another young player and start the rebuilding process. This is as important an offseason as Phoenix has had since they brought in Nash and Quentin Richardson five years ago. While trading Stoudemire seems to be all but a given, the Suns absolutely must get back quality and quantity to justify the move. And in that scenario, Washington might just have the upper hand on making a deal happen.

    Suns
I am not a hardcore basketball fan so maybe its easier for me to say this than a person that has money invested in season tickets but, don't let the door hit him in the culo on the way out, it does not seem like he wants to be here, I don't know but it appears that many of these athletes are becoming more and more spoiled!

    Trade em all
Get rid of them all!! Why keep Nash ? When you don't have talent around him . Amare will never be the player he is hyped to be and get rid of Shaqs contract to any sucker who will take it . Start the rebuilding now instead of another lackluster year. Oh yeah , find a scout for the draft . Last years draft was pathetic.

    Boston Trade is Crap
Washington "rumor" is more interesting depending on who Wiz decide to give up. The emphasis will be on moving Shaq and if that occurs look for Amar'e to remain unless he does something stupid like demand max money or else in extension talks.

    This is so unlikely
I hate to say it but as a Wizards fan, this is the most unrealistic article ever. First of all, Boston would NEVER trade Rondo. He is there PG of the future, I think he's like 21 years old, and that would be one of the dumbest decisions possible. Second, the Wizards won't trade Butler because he is likely our best player. If anyone gets traded it will be Jamison who is getting up there in age.

    Amare trade rumor
Someone check the water cooler and see what mind altering substance must be in there at KTAR. Boston would NEVER trade Rajon Rondo to anyone - with the numbers that he has been putting up during the post season and the way he has played the last two seasons - Not going to happen anytime soon and definitely not to Phoenix. And stating that Amare WILL be traded with the other rumors seem more the guess/wish of Gambo than a certainty as he reports. The internet is viral and even if a rumor has no basis in fact, it is spread and repeated especially when a radio station or newspaper puts it out first. If the Suns truly want to sign Steve to an extension, they will need to keep Amare. If they trade Amare, then Steve will very likely be gone as well.

    Move Franchise
After Sarver and Kerr get through ripping this franchise apart they can move it to say Little Rock, AK or Butte, MT. Was it Kerr that said he would be a genius or an idoit, but Sarver hired him so it must be two idiots.

    Kerr made the right move
but for the wrong big man,.... marion needed to be dealt and they needed a big man to move stoudamire to PF,... however they should have gone after someone other than Shaq,... Anyways, Kerr has been there a very short time and Sarver has been giving away draft picks and players for a while now....

    You are right
Yep...Stoudemire needs a big man, no question. And if we deal w/ San Antonio (pray we don't), that will make them powerful again. Please, not San Antonio. That's one team that knows what they're doing. If Kerr does this move with them, I'm convinced that Kerr is still a Spur.

Gambo! This is smelling of the fake suns fan who falls so fast in love with amare and then jumps off the band wagon and start bashing him as he is worthless as an All star and NBA first team. Rando is good, but why trade Amare for him? Washington is interesting, but if they let Amare go for crap, this team has NO change of rebuilding or being competitive in the next 5 years. We are going to become the Memphis Griz if your lame trade happens Gambo. Why not throw in Golden State like you do on the radio? by the way, is this reporting or a guess/wish of Gambo. Stop talking basketball, you don't know crap. Your show is starting to go the wayside like your reporting is. Sucks because I used to love your show.

But what about KG? and new trade scenario.
If the trade scenario with Boston came true, then Amare would be asked to pay center since the starting 4 position is one KG has a lock on. This wouldnt suit Stoudemire well, plus his defensive liabilities wouldnt make Doc happy to see him play the 5. Here is a trade idea I had. ESPN trade machine says it can work financially, although on paper seems very lopsided. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=pyrg34 Nash and Amare to Cleveland for Mo Williams and Ben Wallace (and maybe a draft pick or two to help balance). How this helps Phoenix. 1. 4.5 million off the books this year (9 million if you consider luxury tax) 2. Establishes Mo Williams as the Suns point guard of the future. 3. Gives Robin Lopez another mentor on this team, helping establish him as the team's starting center going forward. It would be like Lopez having both an offensive coach and defensive coach on the floor. 4. Wallace's expiring contract along with Shaq's gives you another 35 million total off payroll in 2010, giving the Suns a legit chance of getting a MVP caliber free agent to play alongside Barbosa, Lopez, Mo Williams, and Lopez. How this helps the Cavs 1. Gives LeBron two players that can help him NOW to win a title. (plus gives Nash a legit chance of getting a title before he retires) 2. Cavs can re-sign Nash for less money in a reserve role in 2010, giving Cleveland a better chance financially to keep LeBron.

    Love it
I love that idea. Cleveland couldn't refuse it, and it'd help us tremendously. Cleveland wants a shot at a title now before risking the loss of LeBron. This is a fantastic idea.

    Gambo always sounds so confident...
saying this or that WILL definitely happen. Did the Suns make a deadline move like he said they would? Nope. Is Anquan Boldin elsewhere yet? Nope. Don't take this guy too seriously unless he's breaking D-backs news that perennial f-up Josh Byrnes whispers directly into his ear.

Gambo, we all know that Amare wants to be a Laker, unless that happens he will not be traded.
