Why I don't want Kevin Kolb on the Arizona Cardinals

We are all on the edge of our seats hoping that sometime this week the NFL owners and players will finally agree on the parameters of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. If that does happen, the majority of NFL teams will kick it into overdrive as they try to fill out their rosters during a speedy free agency period. The Cardinals are one of the teams that have to get busy quick!

That leads me to the concern I have about one of their highly rumored moves. You know the one where they trade for QB Kevin Kolb from the Philadelphia Eagles? The lockout has contributed to our ongoing debate on whether or not the Cardinals will, or better yet should, trade for Kolb.

I have said for years that I don't get the infatuation that people have with Kolb. Is he really that good? Look at the list that this ESPN article compares Kolb to. Not exactly a list that has me excited!

The Eagles are only going to have a couple of suitors for Kolb's services, but two of the main teams are rivals in the Seahawks and Cardinals. I don't even think the Seahawks are really that interested, but they could definitely help the Eagles raise the price for the Cards.

The latest had the Cardinals trading Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie for Kolb. That defeats the whole purpose of drafting Patrick Peterson and pairing he and DRC up on the corners. This would be a monumental mistake in my opinion, especially for an average QB. I wish the Cardinals would pursue Carson Palmer from Cincinnati instead. He wants out and trust me he is a far better QB than Kolb will ever be. Make that phone call and at least see what the Bungles say.

I have this bad feeling that my sentiments will, or already have, fallen on deaf ears. I think the Cards have made up their mind that Kolb is their guy and as soon as they can they will make a deal for him. If he becomes a Cardinal I will root for him to succeed because I don't care about being right on this and would hope I am wrong. However, I think I will be saying "I told ya so!"

NOT A BIG KOLB FAN BUT..
Im not a big Kevin Kolb guy. I actually like Orton or Palmer as well, but I'll trust quarterback evaluations to Ken Whisenhunt over Mark Asher. I think he has a little bit more experience than Ash at the intricacies of quarterback play!!!!!

    The first comment.
If experience evaluating QB's has you on the Kevin Kolb bandwagon, then lets not forget that Coach Ken Whisenhunt chose Derek Anderson over Matt Leinart in what is a monumental mistake thusfar in the Whisenhunt era.... All I'm saying is if the Arizona Cardinals pick up Kevin Kolb they should not break the bank to do so. A 2nd round pick no better is all they should give up. Thank you, and have a nice day.

Cardinals Should Leave Kolb in the Cold
Wholeheartedly agree with you Asher; Palmer's my Nr1 choice as well. Bertrand described it best by labeling Kolb as a "castaway;" it certainly seems that more people are beginning to share the same sentiment, especially considering Kolb's ever-rising asking price. But let's finally admit to ourselves folks - Andy Reid is no proverbial dummy; if Kolb was a pair of aces, he'd hold that hand much closer to his vest... Note: If, in fact, Graves' plan is to further inflate Kolb's price and leave Carroll footing the bill, then count me in, I'm ALL FOR getting Mr. Tom-Brady-In-Waiting. Ha

Very well said David. And if PhxSprtGuy still needs further affirmation, he can read B.Berry's comments on Kolb. As far as post#3 is concerned, well....let's just call it "comedic relief"

    ZERO Faith In Our Coaches
I have no faith in Whisenhunt. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Every move he's made has hurt out team. Yeah, he had two great seasons, but with a team that Denny built and a QB making one last grasp at greatness. Whisenhunt is a terrible judge of talent, and his ego causes him to think he can make anyone a superstar. Terrified that it's gonna be Kolb and that we are gonna give WAY too much for him, but the fans opinion doesn't matter. Whis made his decision months ago, and no matter how much we protest, it's not gonna change his mind.

I agree with Asher, good article...that being said
Can we kill the Kolb rumors and speculation. What do you know about the front office? It certainly not about who you trust more. If you think you know what the Cardinals are going to do...let me take you back to the draft. There isnt a single person outside of that organization who had the Cards taking a RB in the 2nd, a tight end from podunk college in Fla. in the 3rd, and a fullback in the fifth. No one. There was also some question as to who they would even take in the first! No one in the front office has said that they were interested in Kolb for a 1st rndr or DRC.

    Cardinals need to gamble
I've already seen what Orton can do. And although he can be OK, I don't want to settle for 'just OK'. Kolb can be a riskier choice (depends on what the Cards give up), but there is a chance he can be great. I would rather gamble on an uncertain future in Kolb than a future which is not good enough in Orton. BTW, I remember Asher campaigning against signing Warner a few years back. How did that turn out?
