"Why would we trade him, I don't understand that," Suns coach Alvin Gentry said. "That's not anything that's been discussed here."

Wednesday the Suns, responding to the sudden rumors that Steve Nash was on the trade block, essentially said it's something they would never even consider.

Well, I'm saying they'd be fools not to *insert joke here*.

Let's be honest for a second and admit that nobody really thinks this Suns team is going to make a run at that elusive Larry O'Brien Trophy. In fact, there are many out there (myself included) who think this team will be hard-pressed to even make the playoffs. The Suns, unfortunately, are short on size and star power, which just so happen to be the two things you need most to compete in the NBA.

Note that the team's starting lineup averages 31 years of age (a number skewed by the 22-year-old Robin Lopez) and the roster, as a whole, is not exactly full of guys whose careers are ascending.

There is one exception. Goran Dragic.

A third year pro, Dragic is showing the makings of a budding star. He is getting to the free throw line three times a game, scoring 9.4 points and dishing out 3.7 assists, all in just 16 minutes per game. That he's shooting 50 percent from the floor and 38 percent from three-point range goes to show even more that he has become a very difficult player to guard. Add his size to the equation and you have someone who could be one of the game's better point guards.

But it won't happen in 16 minutes per game which, incidentally, is less playing time than he received even last year. While Gentry is trying to sort out his lineup the team's best young player is languishing on the bench. Now, I'm not silly enough to ask the team to bench Nash for Dragic, but even the most ardent Nash fan has to have noticed how slow the two-time MVP looks on the court compared to the 24-year-old Dragic.

So, we come back to the idea of trading Nash, not because he's ineffective but because the team at some point needs to move on, and they finally have the player to hand the torch to.

Of course, if the Suns traded Nash there would be backlash not seen in Arizona since the Diamondbacks let Luis Gonzalez leave. While absolutely the right decision at the time, there are fans out there who so dearly hold onto the past that they are not ready (or willing) to move on to the future.

But at least Gonzalez was part of a team that brought the Valley a championship. The Nash-era Suns have regular season wins, two MVP awards, tough breaks and entertainment value. But now, in 2010, will people watch a team that is not winning just because Steve Nash is on the roster. Would you?

    I would watch
why? because he is one of the best PG ever. Especially what he has done at his age. I personally do not feel Dragic is ready to lead this team. He is not going to be a star with all of the stud PG's that are out there. He will be solid, but he needs a solid SG or SF that can handle the ball and take control of the game. He is a supporting cast type of player. A third option. time for a fire sale. time to get young talent and tons of picks. Start over because there are some studs in this draft that could rebuild with. Let nash choose what he wants.

    Realistically
Sarver is also not stupid. He knows this team will die when nash is done. No one will show up to these games. People love Nash and its all about entertainment and a good person what he is. But if sarver hangs on, (which he will) the rebuilding process (especially after losing amare) is going to be slow and painful. He wont spend to make smart moves like Portland and other great teams. So suns fans, bandwagon fans, Scottsdale fake fans, lets see who are true fans when this team hits rock bottom like the housing market. Its going to be dreadful.

    "RUMOR" has it....HAH!
The only "RUMORS" that are really going on are when "EXPERT" writers, like A. Green" start one, is because he can. DUH!! Anyone messes with "NASH"...well...all I can say is, the "SUNS" house will come down..! It would be one of the worst and cruel jokes and a show of IMMENSE disrespect ( I don't care if BsktBall is 'Business") to one of our(PHNX) greatest athletes, helped put the SUNS on the map...and still, today, continues to pour his heart and talent and excitement into the game, today!... How dare columnist writers, such as "GREEN"...try to play "GOD" in the sports world.

    Get rid of him
I lost respect when he opened his mouth and got political. He is paid to play basketball not to be a politician.
Man, I can't wait until 2012 when the Republicans can start picking up the pieces and get this great country back on track!!!!!

    Worth exploring, but...
The Suns should explore reasonable trade offers if another team wants Nash, but with some reservations. I'd be willing to bet Nash has the John Stockton aging curve (he has a lot of the Stockton skill set). Stockton was productive up to age 40; possibly Nash will be as well. If he is, the Suns may get the short end of any deal they accept. Also, now that rumors are out there, I suspect the Suns are disadvantaged. The Suns may get better offers if they don't appear ready or willing to move Nash. (In any case, Dragic needs to be playing at least 20 minutes a game at this point.)

    Trade Richardson, not Nash
Richardson is an expiring contract. Look what happened with Amare. He is worth a lot right now due to his contract and his high level of play, which some might argue is because he is in a contract year. Dragic can start at the two, and be the point at times, continuing his development. Trade for a Kevin Love or a Josh Smith and bring in a true power forward. This also opens up more minutes for Dudley.

    HUGE MISTAKE
Trading Steve Nash would be a huge mistake this would complete the dismantling of the Phoenix Suns. Sarver please DO NOT trade Nash to anyone unless you are going to get a Jhon Wall a Derrick Rose a Westbrook or a Chris Paul. Steve Nash is still the best true point guard in the NBA as far as assist and breaking down defenses. Now the only other way you trade Nash and I mean the only way is if Nash himself ask that you trade him to a guaranteed Championship team. Not the Lakers but a team like the Miami Heat where he could win multiple championships. Part1
