Arizona State head coach Herb Sendek was clear after his team gave up 22 turnovers last week against Arizona: Holding on to the ball is the main focus lately for the Sun Devils.

But Thursday night, ASU (8-7) opened a 55-47 loss with eight points given to Oregon State (10-4) off four turnovers.

The Beavers, ranked first in forced turnovers in the Pac-12 (15.4 per game), continued to pester the Sun Devils — who average 15.1 turnovers per game — and ultimately scored 20 points off 16 ASU giveaways.

No Sun Devil scored in the double-digits until there was just 1:30 left in the game, when center Eric Jacobsen slid in a layup for his 11th point. Shaq McKissic would follow suit with 11 points after a layup with eight seconds left in the game.

Forward Savon Goodman, who had led ASU in scoring with a 13.0 points-per-game average, was 1-of-5 from the field with just two points.

Oregon State’s Malcom Duvivier led all scorers with 15 points and five assists.

20

Arizona State’s 20 first-half points are the lowest they have scored in the first period all season.

Their 47 points total are a season low.

34-24

Oregon State dominated the glass, grabbing 34 boards to ASU’s 24.

The Beavers also scored 15 second-chance points off 12 offensive rebounds.

19.0

Arizona State was 4-of-21 from behind the arc, hitting only 19 percent of attempted threes. Bo Barnes was 2-of-4, and Jonathan Gilling and Kodi Justice hit one apiece.

Oregon State made less 3-pointers (three total), but were more accurate, shooting 37.5 percent from behind the arc.

26.7

ASU turned the ball over on 26.7 percent of its possessions.

They had 11 first-half turnovers, but slowed the giveaway rate to just five turnovers in the second period while forcing 10 second-half Oregon State turnovers.

22-22

The Beavers and Sun Devils were even down low, hitting 22 points in the paint apiece.

2

This is Arizona State’s second consecutive loss, both of which have been on the road.

ASU has lost five straight on the road this season and the last 13 road games (dating back to Feb. 1 of last year).

The team will face Oregon on the road next on Jan. 10.
