Arizona State head basketball coach Bobby Hurley suddenly has an opening on his coaching staff, as assistant Stan Johnson has accepted a job at Marquette under head coach Steve Wojciechowski.
Johnson spent two seasons under Herb Sendek at ASU, helping the Sun Devils to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014.
“I’m humbled at the opportunity to lock arms with one of college basketball’s great young coaches in Steve Wojciechowski and I look forward to working shoulder to shoulder with the great staff that’s already in place,” Johnson said in a statement. “Marquette basketball is one of the elite programs in the country and I’m so proud to be a small part of such an amazing place.”

The job at Marquette is available because Mark Phelps, another former Sendek underling at ASU, is expected to join Sean Miller’s staff at Arizona.
Hurley’s staff currently consists of assistant Levi Watkins, who followed the head coach to Tempe from Buffalo, and Brian Merritt, who joined the Sun Devils after a five-year stint as the Director of Scouting/Recruiting for John Lucas Enterprises in Houston.
ASU Basketball is in great hands. I'll forever be thankful for my time here and will be pulling for the program to experience great success!
