A little over a week removed since being selected in the NBA draft, a handful of former Arizona Wildcats are already making their presence known in their first real action as professional basketball players.
The Orlando edition of the NBA Summer League kicked off Saturday, with Stanley Johnson — the No. 8 overall pick of the Detroit Pistons — taking the floor against another former Wildcat in Orlando’s Aaron Gordon.
Playing 25 minutes, Johnson scored 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field to go along with four rebounds, three assists and this contested finished in the lane.
Gordon would have an even better outing, as the athletic forward entering his second season with the Magic finished the day with a double-double: 22 points and 18 rebounds on 8-of-18 shooting. All were game-highs.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, the No. 23 overall pick of the Portland Trailblazers before being dealt to the Brooklyn Nets, also enjoyed a solid NBA Summer League debut, scoring nine points on 4-of-8 shooting to go along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 25 minutes of action.
Johnson was back at it for the Pistons on Sunday, this time pouring in 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting, including nine rebounds and three steals (all game-highs) against the Clippers.
