Two bench-clearing incidents overshadowed a win by the Arizona Diamondbacks' Triple-A affiliate, the Reno Aces, Saturday against the Albuquerque Isotopes.
The Aces said Albuquerque's Esribel Arruebarrena took exception to a high and inside pitch from Reno's Mike Bolsinger in the second inning, and both teams' benches and bullpens stormed the field in an incident that was largely free of physical contact.
As play resumed, Bolsinger struck out Arruebarrena, who then got into an altercation with Aces catcher Blake Lalli, and the benches cleared again, this time with several punches thrown. Ten players were thrown out of the contest, including Lalli, Arruebarrena and Aces manager Phil Nevin.
That was the last of the two teams' on-field clashes, and the Aces went on to win 7-3, evening up Reno's four-game homestand at one win apiece. Bolsinger pitched 5.2 innings and allowed nine hits and two earned runs with six strikeouts. He recorded the win and improved to 6-1 with Reno.
The Aces improved to 57-51 (second in their division) with the victory, while the Isotopes dropped to 51-57.
