PHOENIX - While the world waits for the NFL lockout to be over so the Arizona Cardinals can ratchet up their pursuit of Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb, a former Cardinals player has thrown a new name and quarterback the team should look into acquiring before Kolb.

Former Cardinals defensive lineman Bertrand Berry believes Titans quarterback Vince Young would be the best answer for Arizona at quarterback.

"The next team that lands him is going to get a very motivated guy that has a lot to prove. If he gets somebody who believes and trusts him, he can be a great quarterback," said Berry on the Sports 620 KTAR's Gambo and Ash show.

Berry remembers having a difficult time having to game-plan for the former Texas quarterback because of his ability to beat teams with his arm and feet.

"He presents a dual threat. His instincts are very good in the pocket. He would be an asset to any team that picked him up," said Berry.

Young never seemed to get a fair shake in Tennessee having not been on good terms with coach Jeff Fisher.

It's unclear what the asking price for Young would be, but Berry also isn't a big believer in Kevin Kolb and doesn't want to see his former team pursue the Eagles quarterback.

"I don't like the idea of taking somebody else's castaway. He's a castaway for a reason. I'm not real big on bringing in somebody who was looked over in somebody else's organization," said Berry.

Berry believes if Kolb was the real deal, he would be staying in Philadelphia.

If the Cardinals do have a deal already in place for Kolb, like many suspect, maybe the team should re-think their position and explore what it would cost to land Young.

    Kolb's Getting Cold
Or at least that's what I hope the Big Red staff is thinking. Berry described it best by labeling Kolb as a "castaway;" it certainly seems that more people are beginning to share the same sentiment, especially considering Kolb's ever-rising asking price. But let's finally admit to ourselves folks - Andy Reid is no proverbial dummy; if Kolb was a pair of aces, he'd hold that hand much closer to his vest... Note: If, in fact, Graves' plan is to further inflate Kolb's price and leave Carroll footing the bill, then count me in, I'm ALL FOR getting Mr. Tom-Brady-In-Waiting. Ha

Wait a minute. Berry doesn't want Philly's "castaway" but wants Tennessee's? He's not making a very strong case.

    Vince Young.
Why not?Vince Young would be a good fit with our beloved Arizona Cardinals. The threat to run and pass is a great thing. The fact that the Cards are very thin at O-line should be a good reason to look at Vince Young. All in all I believe its a good fit.One more fact, and correct me if Im wrong, but Vince Young hasnt had a threat like Larry Fitzgerald.Throw a re-signed Steve Breaston,Early Doucet, and Andre Roberts into that mix, and you have what can be potentially be a dangerous passing game. This will no doubt do wonders for the running game as well.

    VY
I too would like the Cards to sign VY. He should have learned his lesson in Nashville and be ready to make a big comeback.

Depends what the asking price would be
VY would be an interesting, if unpredictable, acquisition. I feel the odds of him having success with the cardinals is no greater or less then Kolbs, so if he could be acquired for less the Kolb, I'd be all for it. I think I like Kolbs upside a little more so if it was the same price I'd probably still go with Kolb, but this is certainly something worth looking into.

    Castaway
If the Broncos really wanted you they would have ponied up and gave you the money Berry, but they cast you away to free agency hmmmm

    Why not Vince
Yeah, he's a head case, but he delivers on the field and he'd take the Cards to the top of a weak NFC West.If he can be had for cheaper than Kolb, it's worth a shot.

    I dont like
much that is being talked about. VY is a headcase and cant lead a team. the only positive here is he can run. Our o-line is horrible and you need a QB that can buy extra time. Never been high on Kolb. Cards should see the writing on the wall and go after our future franchise QB in Luck. Tank it!
