It has been a difficult slide for Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt. Since the Super Bowl appearance in 2008 followed by the 10-6 season in 2009, the Cardinals have won just six of 22 games.

The joke around the Valley is that Whisenhunt has taken the place of ASU football head coach Dennis Erickson on the hot seat.

But Whisenhunt still has some supporters out there despite the worst start in his tenure with the Cardinals.

Gil Brandt, NFL.com senior analyst and former Dallas Cowboys vice president, joined Arizona Sports 620's Doug and Wolf show.

"I do think that the head coach Ken Whisenhunt is one of the best there is in the National Football League," Brandt said.

That is a pretty solid endorsement from someone who worked with legendary head coach Tom Landry for 29 seasons.

It might be a little too early to consider Whisenhunt on the hot seat. He has shown that he can be successful when given a talented group of players.

And this season's Cardinals are not the most talented bunch in the league.

    Platitudes are great
but unfortunately they don't win ball games. I'd like to be able to agree with Brandt because I like Whisenhunt but for the past year and a half this team has steadily decayed. The true test of a coach is not whether he can win with another coach's players but whether he can bring in talent regularly to produce a consistent winner. I'm all for giving Whisenhunt another year but there needs to be signs of improvement next year. Maybe not playoffs, but at least .500 with a strong showing at home and clear signs that the team is coming around.

    Respect the History management
We have a dark history in terms of football and huge setbacks (like the last 2 years) brings it all back. We are like raging alcoholics that were clean and sober for a couple years. We don't want to go back to that depressing mind state. The cardinals train was on the tracks and building steam; last 2 yr.s have been very hard to digest. Week after week of excuses and failure is still real to most fans and these last two years is like continual flashbacks. Real fans are not giving up we just like the taste of success and don't want to be the "Clippers", "Cubs" or "Cardinals" of yesteryear.

    Whisenhunt
I said at the beginning of the season that this will be a total rebuilding year. Yes, I wish things were moving along a bit better but soon it will all start clicking. To even think about getting rid of Whisenhunt at this point in the game would be utterly senseless. Also, the signing of Kolb was a great move by the Cardinals even though many of you don't think so. Starting to have my doubts...
whether or not this staff has the ability to assess talent appropriately. Of the players chosen to replace the departed, only Rhodes has come through. Boldin-Breaston vs. Doucet-Roberts? Dansby vs. Porter. DRC vs. Jefferson(Peterson-dont forget DRC was a starter as a rookie mid-2008).

    Concerned
I'm not one who easily criticizes and I won't here. However it is a bit disconcerting when you hear the so called national experts say that the Cardinals talent doesn't fit their schemes. Kolb better fit in West Coast offense, want to run the ball but no threat they can count on, D-line and linebackers don't fit the 3-4. Seems like they either need to address their schemes, or build personnel around those who fit what they want to run.

    Denny's Legacy
I know it's poison to say good things about Denny Green but the only winning seasons Whiz has produced were with Denny's draft picks. Denny was wrong about Kurt Warner but who wasn't? He was the only decent talent evaluator the Cards have EVER had! The GM weakness of the club is more than obvious every time they draft another bust. We need a football guy in that position - not just a Bidwill Brown Nose. We are now going to see black outs and half filled stadiums because of Grave's ineptitude.
