The Phoenix Suns may want to keep Steve Nash in purple and orange for the remainder of his career, but does he want to stay in the Valley? We don't know exactly. What we do know is just how long Nash envisions said career lasting.

In an interview with AM New York, Nash laid out his ideal path to retirement.

I want to play three years, and in three years we can see how I feel. I definitely feel like three years is a good number for me right now.

Three years does sound like a good number for the 37-year-old point guard. Retiring at the ripe old age of 40 seems fitting. There's just one problem, his contract with the Suns ends after next season.

If the former MVP truly wants to put in three more seasons before calling it a career there's a distinct possibility that next year -- if there is a next year in the NBA --- could be his last in the Valley. It all boils down to; does it make sense for Nash or the franchise to ink another deal when his current one expires?

It comes down to if the Suns are looking to rebuild or keep their championship playoff hopes alive (however faint the pulse may become in the coming years).

This offseason will go a long way to determining what exactly the future of the Suns organization is and if Nash will be retiring as a member of it three years from now.

    Nash to Miami
It's a good fit. What the heat need more than anything is for James and Wade to learn how to play without the ball...if they can't do that by playing with Nash they never will, they also need perimeter shooting,Nash will be open all day with them. They also need vet leadership,no one could be better than Nash for that.He might even bring them some fans and kill some of the hate.Nash could lose some playing time...save some gas for the playoffs, and win a title or two...good for him.All this makes him very valuable to them which means we could get something back.

No way should Nash go to Miami. They already have a problem with 2 guys that need the ball to be successful. Nash is great with a big man who can play the pick and roll, spot up shooters, and slashers. Nash's role on that team would turn into a play-maker 25% of the time, spot up shooter for LeBron and Wade 75% of the time. Although I would hate to see him leave and I think the Suns should do all they can to keep him here, I think his best shot for a championship is in back with Amare in NY and with Carmello who doesn't command the ball quite as much as LeBron and Wade.

Why do I get the feeling
...that another Amare situation is going to develop? I can see the Suns keeping him, assuming he will resign with them at the end of next year, only to see him say 'adios' and head off to another place without the team getting anything for him. Personnel management on this team is horrible!

    Me too
I would hate to lose him too.But I would hate to see him beat himself up just to not make the playoffs, and we need a someone to build around.I think Chris Bosh would like to get out from under this dark cloud and shine again...anyway,Nash can't do much for this teem...if he can do better and we can get something worth it..it needs to happen

    New York might
Be a better fit but they would have to do a sign and trade first for a power forward to make it worth it for us.

    Sign him to an extension
Nash has a game that isn't predicated on speed, so it's aging gracefully. He's the best player they have, and I'd like to see him retire a Sun. It'd be nice if they could resign J.Richardson as well. Down the stretch they really missed his scoring and 3's which V.Carter wasn't able to provide reliably. With JRich back on board, I think they're a 4-8 seed again in the West. We really do miss Amare... I just think tearing the team down doesn't necessarily mean it will turn out well.

I like the J.Rich idea.He really came on in 2010.It surprised me I thought he was just here for the bucks.

Was the only good get last year.I Wish he could play p-forward and robin could pull his head out.I wouldn't mind having dragic back too.Something must have been going on off the court there.
