This pick was no mystery for a few weeks now after John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports.com reported it. The new Suns front office wants to transition to a more defensive oriented team. With Markieff you are getting a player who knows his role and plays it very well. He is not the superstar or a guy with the potential you normally want to see your team select that high, but the Suns accomplished two things.

One, they added a quality defender that fits their future. Markieff will play alongside Marcin Gortat to form a very good defensive duo. He fits in right away with his ability to rebound, defend and knock down an open three.

Two, he is an immediate upgrade over Hakim Warrick and the other Suns big men in the current rotation.

It will be a transition for Markieff playing for the first time on a team minus his twin brother (Marcus selected by Houston). According to Marcus, he will keep in touch,"I will send him flowers or food and stuff."

Markieff has embraced his new team, "I'm grateful. I'm thankful being put in this position, and I'm going to work my hardest every day and try to contribute to the Phoenix Suns team."
