In this Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 photo, United States powerlifter Ahmed Shafik, of Tucson, Ariz., gestures to the crowd at the Riocentro Pavilion 2 at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil,. Quite a couple of weeks for Ahmed Shafik, the lone U.S. powerlifter at the Rio Paralympics. His wife delivered the couple's second son, and -- at age 43 -- Shafik competed in his second, and he says final, Paralympics. An immigrant from Iraq, Shafik was once imprisoned by the regime of Saddam Hussein, during a round of punishment doled out to national athletes. (Antonella Crescimbeni/Penn State University via AP)
