It's not Byrnes' fault that someone was willing to overpay him by 3 times what he was worth. As for Carlos Quentin, I'm starting to think that there is something about being an Arizona Diamondback that never allows you to reach your full potential. Which young hitter has succeeded here? Travis Lee? No, although he didn't succeed anywhere. Erubiel Durazo? Nope, but again he didn't really pan out anyway. Lyle Overbay? He's been good, not great, but we gave up on him pretty early. Big Diamondback hitting prospects either pan out for someone else or continue to be marginal for us. Even the big bats that we pay for (see: Richie Sexson, Troy Glaus, Adam Dunn) spend one year here and then they are gone. I don't know what needs to change, but I sure would like this year's AL MVP (Quentin) in our lineup. Byrnes' "hustle" isn't quite getting it done.
It's not his fault the D-backs were dumb enough to give him $30M. The thing that is ridicoulous is that he hasn't accepted the responsibility that comes with a $30M contract.
This is the first year in several that Eric "B" has not been the heart of the Team.......He brought the team together, the first year I moved here in 2006, and so he got injured and put on the DL last year......The season has just started you losers........
My D-Backs are not losers.........Their as American as Apple Pie, and I love the Eric Byrnes show toooo!.....
Hey Dave, I was looking through your old articles and it's kind of ironic you write that article cuz now Eric Byrnes is the host of a Bay Area radio show on KNBR called "SportsPhone680" very similar to your 620SportsLine show, but a Bay Area Sports show instead of an Arizona Sports Show.
