    Not that tough
The decision is not as hard as you would think. On the surface dropping an extra 6 million for an unknown Webb seems like a huge gamble. But considering that there are no free agent pitchers that could even come close to Webb's potetial caliber that could be had for 6 million it becomes easier.True, teams with no money can't afford to waste it, but teams with no money cannot win without taking a couple chances. The Diamondbacks will not win without Webb next year. The offense does not provide the consistent runs needed to win with a mediocre pitching staff.

    who would pay more?
In interviews, Webb has said that he is confident he can get more than $8.5M on the open market if the Diamondbacks don't pick up his option. While $8.5 is cheap for a Cy Young-caliber starter, it's a lot to drop on a guy who hasn't pitched in a year with a shoulder that may - or may not - be ready to go next year. So what teams are likely to offer $10M or more for Webb as he is right now? Or is Webb so confident in his recovery that he is planning to wait until he can throw off the mound for teams who might be interested?

    toss a coin
this is one of those times where you have to make a tough choice, but that tough coice is the right one. you must re-sign your CY young award pitcher if you wawnt any hope next year you have to take the load off the bullpen and without webb in the rotation the numbers a ugly, we saw what it was like without brandon this year can you really just save 6 million to do it all over?

    No Brainer
After making poor decisions with Eric Brynes & Chris Young, this is a " No Brainer " to sign Webb Both Brynes & Young could have been signed for much less----Brynes was basically shocked he got so much GM's need to understand the " Risk/Reward" options----something that has been obviously missing with this organization Believe it or not, we have the makings of a great team----bolster the pitching staff & send Hinch back to the minors or give him a desk job & we will be set
