Surprisingly, New York doesn't really support their teams unless they are winning either, no matter what New Yorkers claim. Here are the attendance figures for 2011:
29,435 Mets 23,710 Diamondbacks
11,059 Islanders 12,208 Coyotes
New Jersey?
14,179 New Jersey Nets 17,567 Phoenix Suns
No city supports their teams over the long haul if they aren't any good, except for the Cubs. But don't ask the White Sox how they have been supported over the years when they were bad. Chicago Bulls? Pre-Jordan, around 9,000/game. Post-Jordan? 18,000-23,000. Front-runners!
I am so fed up with sports media talking about how Phoenix isn't a great sports town. It's easy to criticize Phoenix but here's the bottom line. IF YOU LIVE IN PHOENIX AND YOU'RE A FAN OF ANOTHER TEAM INSTEAD OF THE LOCAL TEAMS, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. Sure you can site all kinds of stats and comparisons all you want but if you don't have the sack to lay aside your support of team you grew up and be willing to give AZ teams the same passion you do teams from somewhere else, I don't give a sheeit about your opinion when it comes to what's wrong with Phoenix sports. YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!!
And don't give me this "AZ teams are my second favorite" crap either. I've had the chance to practive what I preach. I grew up a Bears fan in the midwest and spent a good portion of the time booing the Cardinals but God allowed me to break the shackles of the ignorant Chicago fandom and lend my support witht he same passion I did for years for Chicago teams. Now I can't stand any Chicago team. C'mon Gambo, I dare you to do the same with YOUR teams. People like that live here but call someplace else home. I'm sure these are the same people that pizz and moan its too hot in the summer.
