It was totally wrong to do that to Jones. It was unprofessional and embarrassing to the ASU community. However, it was right to not hire him. He may have won 8 games a year here, but we'd be right back looking again in 4 years. It was good they listened to the boosters and fans, but it also shows how seriously unprepared Love/Crow/Patterson were before this process. They should have consulted the boosters 3 weeks ago when they knew DE was going to go bye-bye.
Welcome to the real world. NCAA is not much different than professional sports. It's the way it is. He makes 2 million a year. I don't think his feelings are hurt. The only person with hurt feelings is Marotta. But then again, he's a writer. Their lives are built on emotion and they get to pretend like they have a voice for the people. How about an article that says "yeah, it sucks that ASU pulled the plug but that's how the process goes, on to the next." Pull up your skirt, you are now acting like the ASU front office.
...that was by no means the basis of ASU pulling back. But Jones supposedly impregnated a Hawaii volleyball player back in 2000 or 2001. Something that the school then appears to have buried. You can google this info. I can't believe anyone is calling out ASU fans over this. Call out the boneheaded trio making a head coaching hire with clearly no plan whatsoever and giving everyone a turd sandwich in june jones. But do NOT rag on fans that saw what that sandwich for what it was and demanded more than mediocrity from their football program. Bad call Vince.
Fans do not want to "settle" and that is what the Jones hire felt like. ASU could not find anyone of any notoriety, so they went to what the administration felt was a last ditch effort. If the ASU administration had ANY connection with the fan base, they would have known immediately that this would not have gone down well. The ASU administration is completely out of touch with ASU sports fans, and they need to hire an AD that understands the ASU community better.
