Lumberjacks to face NCU after comeback victory

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After an exciting, come-from-behind victory against Montana State Saturday night, the Lumberjacks travel to the No. 1 seeded Northern Colorado Bears for the Big Sky tournament semifinals Tuesday evening.

Northern Arizona is hot after a furious comeback against Montana State. Trailing by 16 points with 10:44 left, the Lumberjacks finished the games on a 29-10 run and forced eight turnovers in the process for a 65-62 win.

The Lumberjacks split the regular season series 1-1 with Northern Colorado after a NAU won in Flagstaff 65-54 on January 31 then lost a tight game to the Bears on the second to last game of the season 71-72.

Senior Guard Cameron Jones, who is one of ten finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS award, missed a last second buzzer beater in that game that would have given NAU the season sweep over the Bears.

The February 26 matchup was just one of many close games in the all-time series against Colorado State. The last seven games between the two have been decided by a total of 36 points, with four games decided by three or less points.

A win over Northern Colorado would give the Lumberjacks their fifth 20 win season under Head Coach Mike Adras.
The team is making its 10th appearance in the Big Sky Championship in the 12 years Adras has been coach. Adras has posted a 15-17 record all-time in the tournament and last made it to the final game in 2008, losing to Portland State 51-67. This also marks the university’s 20th Big Sky Championship appearance all-time.

Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. Tuesday night, immediately following the conclusion of the No.2 Montana and No. 3 Weber State. The winner of both games will play in the championship Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and the game will be aired on ESPN2.
