When Arizona Cardinals fans heard the New England Patriots signed former wide receiver Michael Floyd, some of the more pessimistic bunch may have pictured him making big plays in the Super Bowl to prove the Cardinals wrong.

As it turns out, Floyd won’t get that opportunity.

Along with former Arizona State running back D.J. Foster, Floyd is inactive for the big one.

The Patriots reportedly wanted to find a way to get Floyd in the game.

Floyd had four catches for 42 yards and one touchdown in the two games he played for the Patriots in the regular season. He had one catch on three targets for nine yards in the Divisional Playoff against the Houston Texans and then was inactive in the AFC Championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 27-year-old former first-round pick was arrested on DUI charges on Dec. 12 and was released a few days later in a contract year. He had 33 catches for 446 yards and four touchdowns in his final season for the Cardinals.

On Media Day, Floyd revealed he had no ill will towards the organization.

“I’m not going to bash on either one of them,” Floyd said of the Cardinals and Patriots. “I love both places and I’m excited that I’m here now.

“I feel like I’m in a good position right now,” he said. “Obviously it’s pretty tough at times when you make a transition at the end of the year to a different team and you have to learn and pick up very quickly on a whole new offense, but with the guys that we have on this team helping me out every single day, and me taking the time to put the work in and get the playbook down, is a good thing for me.”
