The Arizona Diamondbacks signed veteran infielder Daniel Descalso and, to make room for the addition, designated utility man Phil Gosselin for assignment, the team announced Tuesday.

FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports the deal is worth one year and $1.5 million with $1.35 million of that guaranteed.

Formerly of the Colorado Rockies, Descalso is coming off a season where he slashed .264/.349/.424, all career-high numbers. The 30-year-old lefty hit eight home runs to go with 56 RBI. Since 2010, he joins only Mike Aviles as MLB players with 95 or more starts at all of second base (132), third base (97) and shortstop (141).

Descalso spent 2010-14 with the St. Louis Cardinals and spent the last two seasons with Colorado.

Gosselin was acquired by the Diamondbacks in 2015, when a midseason trade dumped reliever Bronson Arroyo’s contract at the expense of Arizona also giving the Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Touki Toussaint.

Gosselin played in 122 games last season, batting .277 with 12 doubles, two homers and 13 RBI.
