The Pulse: Our readers care very little about either team in Super Bowl XLIX

Jan 27, 2015, 4:44 AM | Updated: 4:44 am

When it comes to Super Bowl XLIX, for sure we’ll be watching, but we may not just care for either team playing in the big game.

That’s what our most recent Sanderson Ford Poll Question of the Day, which is found in the right-hand column of our home page, revealed.

We asked, very plainly, “Who do you want to win the Super Bowl?” and 747 people weighed in.

Nearly half of the voters — 363 total (49 percent) — clicked on “I can’t stand either team.”

Well then.

Perhaps because neither the New England Patriots nor Seatlle Seahawks bring much new excitement to the showcase: This is the Patriots’ sixth trip (including three wins) to the Super Bowl since 2002, and Seattle’s third since 2006, including the second year in a row.

The Patriots were in the big game when it was held in Glendale in 2008, but they fell 17-14 to the New York Giants. Perhaps some Valley football fans would like to see them avenge that loss, as 39 percent (291 overall) said in the poll they want to see New England win.

Or maybe they just despise the Seahawks that much. Only 12 percent (93 total) voted for the Arizona Cardinals’ division rival in the poll.

Like it or not, Cardinals fans, we’re going to be seeing plenty of the Seahawks and their “12th Man” over the next week in our backyard. The team will take the field at University of Phoenix Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 1, looking for its second consecutive NFL championship.
