It’s been a while since John Skelton took a real snap in a professional football game.

His next will come north of the border.

The 26-year-old signal caller has signed a two-year deal with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.

Skelton was a fifth-round pick of the Cardinals out of Fordham in 2010 and went on to start 17 games over the next three seasons, compiling a record of 8-9. He completed 53.2 percent of his passes for 3,707 yards while racking up 15 touchdown tosses and 25 interceptions.

In 2011, Skelton stepped in for the injured Kevin Kolb and led Arizona to five wins in seven starts. He would beat out Kolb for the starting job during training camp in 2012, but was injured in the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. He’d retake the starting job in Week 7 after Kolb suffered an injury, but would struggle mightily for the rest of the season before being benched in favor of Ryan Lindley.

Skelton was released in April of 2013 by the Cardinals and was picked up by the Cincinnati Bengals just days later. He wouldn’t make it out of training camp though, and was cut by Cincinnati in August.

He has also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans.

Skelton is one of four quarterbacks currently on Montreal’s roster, joining Jonathan Crompton, Jerrod Johnson and Tanner Marsh.

The Canadian Football League begins its season in June.
