The Arizona Cardinals are going to have a new kicker next year. The team announced the signing of veteran Phil Dawson on Friday.
Dawson, an 18-year NFL veteran, played for the San Francisco 49ers the past four seasons and was with the Browns for 14 seasons. Since 2006, he’s missed four extra points, and two of those came after the extra-point line was moved back. Dawson is 84.5 percent in field goals for his career, drilling 18 of 21 last season.
Last year, at the age of 41, he hit one from 53 yards. His career-long is 56 yards.
Additionally, the signing of Dawson means that not only will the Cardinals not tender a contract to Catanzaro, but “Cat-man” won’t be back at all.
