On Tuesday, the Arizona Cardinals lost linebacker Alex Okafor to the New Orleans Saints.
They did not need long to fill the void left behind, as the team announced it has signed outside linebacker Jarvis Jones, formerly of the Pittsburgh Steelers, to a one-year contract.
Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but according to Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s John Gambadoro, the contract is filled with incentives that could see it be worth around $3 million. Gambadoro also reported that the Steelers were hoping to bring Jones back, but the linebacker — who was slated to visit with the Los Angeles Rams, too — was looking for a fresh start.
The 6-foot-3, 280-pound Jones, who visited with the Cardinals on Monday, was the 17th overall selection in the 2013 NFL Draft out of Georgia, but has yet to establish himself as a professional.
Last season, the 27-year-old tallied 41 tackles, with one sack, two forced fumbles and an interception. In 50 games over four seasons, Jones has just six sacks to go along with 129 tackles, two interceptions, 10 pass breakups and four forced fumbles.
