GCU’s Russell beats ASU’s Graham, but falls in final of NCAA 3-point contest

Mar 30, 2017, 8:04 PM

Grand Canyon University guard DeWayne Russell had the home-court advantage on Thursday.

The NCAA’s College Slam, the slam dunk and three-point championship, took place in Phoenix at Grand Canyon University Arena.

Russell took on Arizona State guard Torian Graham in the first round and following a recovery on his last shooting rack, Russell’s 17 points bested Graham’s 11, pleasing the GCU student section.

Russell would make it all the way to the finals, facing off with Iowa’s Peter Jok.

As you might guess, the GCU Havocs made a ton of noise while Jok shot, trying to rattle him in any way.

Jok stayed consistent, however, like he did through the entire tournament, beating Russell 20-16 and winning the championship.

After he finished shooting, the senior Russell went over and hugged his head coach Dan Majerle.
