Um, would you buy LaVar and Lonzo Ball’s $495 shoes or $220 flip flops?

NBA Draft prospect Lonzo Ball’s dad, LaVar, might have a plan.

It’s not a debate he gets publicity, and the release of his independent Big Baller Brand’s first basketball shoe on Thursday certainly came with a wave of social media reaction. Somehow, Ball’s first shoe doesn’t look bad at all.

It’s the perfect amount of style without being too flashy. Considering the ego of the man we’re dealing with, it’s pleasantly surprising the Big Baller Brand logo isn’t plastered from toe to heel.

But with all due respect, we don’t think these kicks will change the sports world forever as the brand’s Twitter account said.

Also, if you haven’t heard, a pair of the ZO2 Prime kicks will cost you nearly $500.

That is Gucci-level expensive. Also, season tickets for the Memphis Grizzlies expensive.

That’s going to hurt the wallet for a shoe that, um, looks very similar to other mainstream basketball kicks. Specifically, they look a little too much like Kobe’s Nike series.

Shaquille O’Neal, who has his own brand of basketball shoes that generally run on the affordable side compared to the LeBron, Jordan and Kobe sneakers, publically criticized LaVar Ball for making his shoes unaffordable.

Maybe even worse than the shoes — which we can only hope cost so much because they are actually made of expensive materials — is the Big Baller Brand flip flops.

Those only put a $220 dent in the wallet, which many point out as being $30 more than a pair of Gucci slides.

Anyway, the good people of the internet realized how ridiculous all of this was.
