Free agent quarterback Blaine Gabbert and the Arizona Cardinals have reached an agreement on a one-year contract.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the deal Wednesday, and the team made it official Thursday.

Arizona worked out Gabbert last Thursday.

Gabbert, 27, was the 10th overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars out of Missouri. After spending three seasons in Florida, Gabbert played for three years with the San Francisco 49ers.

The Cardinals, who openly entered the NFL Draft mentioning the need to find veteran Carson Palmer’s replacement behind center, didn’t select a quarterback, leaving their post-Palmer outlook murky.

Behind Palmer remain Drew Stanton and Zac Dysert, but neither is considered a permanent starting quarterback. The Cardinals also signed undrafted rookie Trevor Knight out of Texas A&M and will get a look at him this weekend during rookie mini-camp.

For his career, Gabbert has completed 56 percent of his passes for 7,351 yards, 38 touchdowns and 37 interceptions. In 2016, 49ers starter Colin Kaepernick was benched in favor of Gabbert, who went on to start the first five games of the season and throw for 925 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions on the season.
