The Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday announced they have recalled infielder Ketel Marte from Triple-A Reno.
Marte will take the place of shortstop Nick Ahmed, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday after suffering a fractured right hand after being hit by a pitch in Tuesday’s 6-5 win over St. Louis.
The 23-year-old Marte was acquired by the Diamondbacks in the trade with Seattle that brought them Taijuan Walker, and in 70 games this season for Reno has batted .338 with six home runs and 41 RBI. His 105 hits lead the minor leagues.
In 656 big league at-bats, Marte — who can play both middle infield spots — has hit .267 with three home runs and 50 RBI while also stealing 19 bases.
