When the Buffalo Sabres traded forward Tyler Ennis on Friday, it didn’t take long for him to start spending time with a new teammate.
That was because one of his new teammates was already there with him.
Ennis, a center who played eight seasons with the NHL’s Sabres, was traded along with Marcus Foligno from Buffalo to the Minnesota Wild for Jason Pominville and Marco Scandella.
But it just so happened that Ennis was working out with Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon when he learned of the trade.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that Ennis “happens to be Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon’s best friend.”
“It’s pretty crazy to think that your best friend from growing up when you’re playing, two smaller guys that were told no, are going to be playing on the same NHL team together,” Spurgeon told the paper.
Ennis was also quoted in the Tribune.
“It feels almost like a dream come true playing with Jared,” he said.
