Diamondbacks reliever Rubby De La Rosa was placed on the 10-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation on Thursday, and right-hander Jake Barrett was recalled to replace him.
De La Rosa, who moved to the bullpen after 2016 due to an elbow injury, was recalled on June 23 after building back up from the issue with Triple-A Reno. Once with the D-backs, he appeared in six games (five innings) and allowed three hits, three runs and three walks with eight strikeouts.
Barrett, who finished 2016 as one of Arizona’s better relievers, didn’t participate in spring training because of shoulder inflammation.
He began a rehab stint in May and with Reno has appeared in 22 games (22.2 innings). There, he allowed 13 earned runs and 20 hits for a 5.16 ERA. Barrett also struck out 25 opponents.
The 25-year-old Arizona State product finished last season with a 3.49 ERA for the Diamondbacks and in 68 games allowed 23 earned runs and 28 walks to go with 56 strikeouts.
