Miami Marlins ace Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident in September last year.
With the popular star gone and the All-Star Game in Miami this year, there wasn’t a better time to pay tribute to the late 24-year-old.
Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper donned Fernandez with his number on his cleats for Tuesday’s game, captioning his picture with “For you Nino!”

Although Harper never played with Fernandez, his death devastated many not only because of how young he was, but also because of his personality and fun-loving spirit towards the game.
Harper wasn’t the only one declaring a message with his footwear.
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Zack Cosart wore cleats with the donkey from the movie “Shrek” on them. His left shoe read, “Life is better with a donkey.”

His cleats were inspired from his teammate’s comments earlier this season, where first baseman Joey Votto promised Cozart a donkey if he was voted into the All-Star Game.
