Kolb’s biggest mistake could be forcing the ball to Fitzgerald

Sep 9, 2011, 9:59 PM | Updated: 11:02 pm

A quarterback’s job is to get the ball into his receiver’s hands, and if Larry Fitzgerald is one of them, well, all the better.

One of the best wideouts in the NFL, Kevin Kolb would be wise to get him the ball. As long as he doesn’t force the ball to him, which is a concern for Arizona Sports 620’s Ron Wolfley.

“It’s human nature, [Fitzgerald] is Kevin Kolb’s safety blanket, if you will, his safety net,” Wolfley said.

Wolfley’s concern is that Carolina’s defense will be much more vigilant of covering No. 11, and the opportunities that were there in the preseason for Kolb to find him may not be around come Sunday.

As long as Kolb recognizes that and is willing to get the ball to his other targets, taking what the defense gives him, things should be OK.

“The second thing I’m a little concerned about is Kevin Kolb trying to do too much all on his own, trying to take the game over, saying ‘I’ve got to go out there and I’ve got to do this pretty much all myself.'”

Kolb would very much be aided by a strong running game as well as good line play, as time to throw may be the most important factor in him not making mistakes.
