The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Thursday they acquired catcher John Ryan Murphy from the Minnesota Twins in a trade of Double-A left-handed pitcher Gabriel Moya.

Murphy will go to Triple-A Reno. Outfielder Yasmany Tomas was moved from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.

Murphy is a 26-year-old catcher who has spent time in both the Yankees and Twins organizations. He has 141 games of major league experience, hitting .238 in those games over the course of four seasons with five home runs and 27 RBI.

He has yet to make a major league appearance this year.

In Triple-A with the Twins this season, Murphy was hitting .222 with four home runs and 27 RBI.

Moya, meanwhile, is a 22-year-old southpaw who was in his sixth season with the D-backs organization. This year, he pitched in relief for the Double-A Jackson Generals and put up a 0.82 ERA in 34 appearances. He had 17 saves. MLB.com ranked Moya as the D-backs’ No. 25 prospect.

The move of Tomas to the 60-day DL comes as the slugger has been out since June 2 with right groin tendinitis. In his absence, the D-backs acquired right-handed bat J.D. Martinez on July 18, who has three home runs in five games since joining the club.
