On behalf of the WNBA Cares Community Assist Award, Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner will donate $5,000 to the Phoenix non-profit “One-N-Ten,” the LGBTQ youth organization that was victimized by arson earlier in July.

“I have volunteered at One-N-Ten, I have spoken to their youth and staff at Phoenix PRIDE, and it is an organization I believe in,” Griner said in a press release. “I can’t believe someone would take away a safe-space for kids by doing something so violent, but I hope this donation helps a little in their recovery. I’m proud to be a part of the Phoenix community and give back to a place that has given me so much.”

Griner chose to donate the money to “One-N-Ten” after winning the June WNBA Cares honor for her support of the local homeless and LGBTQ communities.

For the “BG’s Heart & Sole Shoe Drive,” Griner recently partnered with the Phoenix Rescue Mission for the second year in a row and collected donated shoes for the homeless. She delivered shoes, socks and water to the homeless across the Valley.

Griner also was involved in the Mercury’s Pride Night, which welcomed more than 10,000 fans on June 16.
