Former ASU golfer Jon Rahm executes one-handed backward chip shot

Aug 13, 2017, 2:15 PM | Updated: 2:16 pm

Former Arizona State Sun Devil Jon Rahm has quickly become one of the best golfers in the world.

If he keeps making shots like this, it’s easy to see why.

Rahm stole the show in the Valley at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in 2015 with a top-five finish, turned pro in 2016 and quickly took home a PGA Tour victory by winning the Farmers Insurance Open.

This weekend marked the PGA Championship in Charlotte, a tournament he entered ranked as the sixth best golfer in the world.

He proved that ranking with a flat-out amazing shot on the 18th hole when he was stuck by a creek.

With no way to hit the ball in normal fashion without having to take his shoes and socks off and stand in the water, he was forced to either hit the ball left-handed or try a trick shot.

Rahm, of course, chose the latter, and impressed the crowd by chipping it on the green with a one-handed backwards shot.

Although he ended up bogeying the hole and finishing the tournament seven over, it’s easy to see why people are so high on the 22-year-old.
