Umps struggle to call D-backs’ home run a home run

Not bragging about great eyesight or anything, but this is pretty clearly a home run, no?

Against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, the Diamondbacks’ Adam Rosales smacked his sixth home run of the year off a Hyun-Jin Ryu pitch in the first inning, but the third baseman turned second base in quite the hurry.

Apparently, that was because he didn’t see that the ball landed a good foot above the yellow stripe in dead-center field. Neither did the umpires, who signaled a fair ball, leading Rosales to stop and third base standing up.

A quick huddle between the umps ensued, and finally they corrected the call that appeared obvious all along.

Rosales touched home after his solo homer became official, and the D-backs added to another big first inning against the Dodgers when Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run home run, giving Arizona a 3-0 lead after the first inning.

That all came just a game after the Diamondbacks put five runs on Dodgers starter Rich Hill during the first inning Tuesday, helping Arizona to a 7-6 victory.
